Dear PPS People,

********** Introductory BioMOO Meetings **********

15:00 GMT, Mon 2 Nov 1998
23:00 GMT, Wed 4 Nov 1998

I will be holding introductory meetings for PPS students in the PPS Base
in BioMOO at the times given above. The purpose of these meetings will be
to introduce the concept of this virtual reality communication
environment. You will learn how to move around the environment and
communicate with other course participants.

There will be another introductory meeting during the following week. Let
me know by email if you can't make either of these times and I'll make
sure we can find a time then that will suit you.

Later in the course BioMOO will be used for discussions about the course
material and the assignments, and for specialist seminars from experts.

You can attend these meetings even if you don't have your own "character"
in BioMOO yet - just connect as a guest. Full instructions for connecting
are given below. To find out more about MOOs, and BioMOO in particular,
see http://pps99.cryst.bbk.ac.uk/tech/moo/index.html,
http://bioinformatics.weizmann.ac.il/BioMOO/ and

I hope to meet as many of you as possible in BioMOO next week.

Best wishes,

Dr. Clare Sansom

*** INSTRUCTIONS FOR CONNECTING TO BIOMOO ***

1) Using Telnet

type telnet bioinformatics.weizmann.ac.il 8888
then either "connect your_user_name your_password" or
"guest your_name any_password" (if you don't have your own
character set up)

You should then type "go pps base"

2) Using a MOO "client"

There are a number of "client" programs available which are easier to use
than telnet. If you have one of these available at your site, you should
select the site bioinformatics.weizmann.ac.il and port no. 8888, and
proceed as above.

More details about MOO clients can be found on
http://bioinformatics.weizmann.ac.il/BioMOO/reference/Clients.FAQ
and on the PPS course BioMOO page.

Good luck!
